I'm going to look at what I think is going to be a 410 MEL out of a 58 Edsel Ranger. Is there any way that I can positively ID the cube size between the other MEL engine sizes without taking it apart?

I have been unable to collect much EDSEL (410CI E-475) information. The Casting I.D. on the 383/430 block is ED 6015 for 1958 as both used the same block. The 410 and 383/430 used the same heads, etc.

The Engine Codes are;

EDG 383CI
EDH 410CI
EDJ 430CI

The Casting I.D. has to be different (bore is different). Another giveaway is that the 410 used the same ram horn exhaust manifolds as the 58 MERC 383/430.

Please let us know what you find.

Edsel used the MEL engine for only one year and that was 1958. After 1958, they dropped the MEL and went strictly with the FE engine. In addition, all 410's had the E-475 (which stood for torque)marking on the valve cover. If your Edsel is a 58 and it has a MEL, it is definetly a 410.

if its a 58 its should be a e400 this is the 361 cu in fe family. if someone has put it in there, possible clues is fuel pump on 410 was top center of engine between intake and water pump, on the fe series it was on the side of the block also note that edsel 410 had e475 on their valve covers the 361s had e400 on theirs this was their torque ratings.only the corsairs and citations had the 410 engine in them. rangers and pacers had 361.
