Hi all, I just found this forum. I was searching on google for MEL 410......
Does anyone else on this forum own 58 Edsel with a 410??? I just did a tranny oil change and I had a real tough time finding the pan gasket. My local tranny shop looked at the pan and said it was a "large case cruise-o-matic" also used in 58-60 Lincoln cars. He had to special order it, cost me $15! Next time I'll just make a gasket.
Does anyone know where I can buy the water outlet (thermostat housing) or the 2-switch contact water temperature sender? Looking for both of these parts.
Thanks, Kevin.

Yes, the EDSEL used the LINC LX tranny (first gear start-twin range). The early 1958 had the second gear start MERC-O-MATIC.

Let me work on that thermostat housing. I have heard they are hard to find. Also the temp. sending unit.

Hello, thanks for the welcome message. I already have one spare thermo housing so you don't have to hunt too hard for one, I'm only looking for someone who might already read this forum and has an extra to sell. The temp sender is what I could really use. If you want to see my Edsel and read it's unique history, go to:

Take care, Kevin.

I guess you didn't know I am also an EDSEL admirer also?

I don't have an EDSEL MPC. Is the temp switch the same as used on LINC-MERC or is it unique?

The sender I need must have a 1/4" NPT mount. It has two switches inside. The first opens at 100 deg (for COLD lamp) and the second closes around 256 deg (for HOT lamp).

Thanks for trying!
The FoMoCo part number that I am looking for is B8E-18208-B.
The one on ebay has two connection tabs tied together.

Misread Your Origional Description

The basic PN is usually 10884. Do you have an EDSEL Master Parts Catalog? The prefix B8E makes it a dedicated EDSEL PN. I read through a lot of online EDSEL material last night. There isn't as much support for the car as there is LINC-MERC it seems.

I see where I mistakenly thought it was a two pin, I misread your description. You described the switch itself as two-stage.

The PN for the 65/68 FORD with lamps is C5AZ 10884-B but the MOTORCRAFT CATALOG shows it as two pin. I have a number I was going to call;

OLDTIME PARTS
1-888-399-7278

Hello,
I tried 'oldtimeparts". No luck...
For some reason, Ford did not use there "normal" part number for this particular temp sender (as you have noticed)...

OSI

OSI (Obsolete-Supersede-Interchange) Catalog (JAN 94) shows B8E 18208-B as NR (Not Replaced).

So there was no progression to C5AZ 10884-B.

Only way it will be available is NOS or takeoff. I doubt very seriously it will be available aftermarket after all these years.

The basic PN 18208 throws it into the heater section of the catalog. Does it also control some form of heater function? Does this car have ATC and/or factory air?

This was sent by E-Mail from a MERC fan that is a friend.

Might be worth a shot.

He can be reached at (239) 731-8027. His name is Robert Mayer. He is in Fort Meyers, Florida so I hope he can be reached given all the storms they have had there.
