I'm going to be dropping the engine back in my 58 Mercury in a couple of weeks and I forgot which motor mount went on which side. This is for a MEL 383 V8.

Thanks for the pic. Unfortunally that is not the correct mount for my engine. According to my parts book that is the typical one used but the 383 and 430 use a different mount. --- -- -- ---

They look more like that. Just not sure which offset goes on which side.

FASCINATING!

This is amazing! How many ways did M-E-L engineer the way to mount an engine?

I just opened my 58 MERC manual and see what you are describing. It appears the open end of the V goes to the block as it has two mounting holes and the other end to the frame mounts as it has one stud.

The photo I showed is supposed to be a 58 MERC. I am now wondering if someone put an early FE mount(s) on the engine in the photo?

BTW- The mount that you have appears to be much stronger.

Have you read the thread on mounting pad location? Is there any possibility of a picture of your installation?

According to my parts book that mount was the one typically used. It looks like there was several different types of mounts used in that year.
