I see a few names familiar from the fe forum but only 3 or 4 posters, just thought I'd let you know they'res more lurkers out here. I have a 59 merc parklane with a 430, hopefully I wont need help soon with its running condition unless I happen upon some tri-power action. see you all around here.

.....Thank you for showing up. I think the reason why you can see just a few posters is because the MEL wasn't too long in production and so come, it is not a very popular engine by production numbers.
Most guys in the neighbour forums drive different cars too. I'm not too familiar w. the cars where it went with. I think it was commonly used to cruise families and heavy loads of good ol' american chrome.
As you can read below, it obviously was a very potent race engine too, but that I guess was a relatively short period of time,...not like he FE

As for the lurkers, I must say that the forum is like the desert. If you look closely you'll see a lot more than it is evident in the first moment. The forum had nearly 3000 visitors last month.
In the first 3 days of this month there have already been 500 invisible Indians watching a hand full of posters.
If the visitor progression keeps constantly at this rate we'll probably have about 8500 until the end of this month.
Thats not much compared w. the other forums, but I didn't expect that there was so much traffic at all.

An other problem is that there is a bug in Network 54's Directory routine. Unfortunately I can't register into this directory. So unless I find some time and knowledge to add this forum it will rest in the shade.
Stick around once in a while.
Regards

You know...it is interesting to think how far development would have gone if FORD didn't bring MERCURY back into it's fold in 1960/61.

Had MERCURY been allowed to go it's own way as it had since 1957, you might have seen all kinds of performance developments for the MEL to counter FORD's FE.

You got the message when FORD (HOLMAN-MOODY) dropped MEL development in 1959 and went to the FE in 1960. FORD started (end of racing ban) participating again and was only concerned with the FE as it would be the main powerplant for FORD-MERC for the sixties.

how do we post pics here or on the FE site?

I do agree the mel would have been a good performance motor if they didnt drop it, but I cant get over the weight issue too.

...Yo Tyler. The above described way how to post pics is easy but has the disadvantage that the pics seem to delete after a while.
In favour of a Forum that does serve people for a long time it is desireable to post pics that add to the archieve "forever".
AFAIK many if not most participants host their pics on various locations such as free web space that have often been offered by ISP in the past and present.
These free spaces are mostly limited to 10 or 15 Mgbite, but that's quite good imo. Once you packed it full you still can go for an other one to store your forum pics or whatever you need them for. E-Bay?
I highly recommend to do so in favour of a forum that can serve as an archieve.
Unfortunately my own web space is limited too and it would be impossible to host the forum participant's pics and documents in such a wise.
If everybody takes care of his own pics, then this place can get a huge colourful resource like other successful forums too.

I'm not too deep in who and who offers free web space, but aas far as I remember there is yahoo's geocites that offers s.th.
My owbn free web space can be found at the german ISP www.freenet.de
All yozu need to do is to just sign in for a free account and most likely you'll be able to start using it imediately.

These locations have their own help sections where they also instruct you how to upload your pics to that space.
Once a pic is up, all you have to do is to paste and copy its' URL.
It will be s.th. like this:

htttp://www.motorhouse.org/%20Forum%20Post%20Bilder/MEL%20Forum/HaHa%20P%20you%27re%20busted.JPGG

In this case I trippled the t where it usually says http and added an extra G in the end to prevent the address from converting to a picture in the post field.

Copy this address into your post and add the prefix

and suffix> to it. That will make it viewable as a pic. You can experiment by using the forum post preview feature.

It is really very easy. Once you are at it you might ask for more details any time. There might be other participants who can give you more help and info on the web space question,..I'm not very informed these days.
Good luck
