Thanx again for your research. I plan on retaining the teletouch and not go to column shift. From info I have so far,the trans I have from a 58 merc with the pushbutton won't work. That merc trans didn't have the Id tag on it. The numbers I got were off the casting that I posted earlier.
I have someone checking on a 59 merc trans. he may have one and hope he can get the Id tag info. I believe the 383 and the 430 are same case,but don't know what the different prefix and suffix numbers indicate. The chart you sent is for 58,that year had both column and pushbutton. That's what I figured were the differences on that year's model.
If this fellow indeed has a trans,I'll email the numbers to you and see what you think,if it is the correct case. I'm trying to save myself a wasted days trip. Tom
