Response to MEL SUPER MARAUDER Fabrication

I bought the 1958 mercury intake (bare) 15 years ago for a 430 powered car. I went to find holley 2 bbls non performance style carbs (maybee 280 cfm+/-. find some standard issue for early 60s ford products holley carb X 3.I paid 10 apiece for them but you must use the 1957-59 style float bowl assy with the metering block (hint these style dont have the external float adjustment on them, you make the adj buy bending on the hanger inside. and trimming the underside of the airhorn everything looks like original. if you use the latter style float bowl you will have to d shape the airhorn like the fe 390-406 setup used. mechanical linkage can be fabricated( I used a anssen kit for the mopar six-pack and some hard work. I then used a single 4 oval ford style cleaner and took the base to the machine shop with the pattern and 2 days had it together.I tried to used vacuum secondaries from holley 4 bbls but too many problems arose. The car is gone but still have the setup on the shelf.I think they are a very rare item. another thing I tried was the autolite/ford 2100 style (you can find these that flow up to 420 cfm) but most are about 300. ford actually has a technical bulletin that shows part #s and assy. procedures.
