Many years ago my brother did a pocket port on 62 430 heads. Knocked down the guides, blended the seats into the pocket and only matched the ports to the gaskets to about 1/4 inch depth. Stock valves, bb chevy springs. Cam, tri-power and electronic ignition. Stock pistons.
The engine screamed. Put out so much torque it destroyed several auto transmissions, (fmx) or large case cruise-o-matics and twisted a drive shaft like a candy cane.
It also twisted the flex plate like a pretzel. This was in a 57 fairlane. I recall he ported the heads on a saturday with a die grinder and goggles. Was not a huge task. |
