There are actually three models of this trans (post 1958). FORD-O-MATIC (FX), MERC-O-MATIC (MX) and Twin Turbo (LX). Each has a progressively larger main case. The LX is catalogued as an MX in LINC-MERC P&A and the differing parts are identified in the parts listing according to TAG I.D. No.
The FX, MX and very infrequently the LX are used between model lines accoring to the torque of the vehicle engine and weight of the chassis. In many performance FORD's of the sixties, the MX was usually used until the FMX (1968) and C6 (1966) were introduced.
The LINC had special provisions for ride quality/driveline vibration it it's driveline design. This has to be taken into consideration when planning a power swap.
